Instrumentation Design / Process support serving New Product Introduction (NPI) and Fleet programmes for Civil Large Engines (CLE) across the engine. The Designer will be required to perform variety of activities related to Instrumentation Quality Procedures and Production for Design to help / support Rolls-Royce tech lead by recommending optimum equipment and layout by preparing design drawings and sensor specification. Designer must be able to understand the Engine Development Programme (EDP), Flight Test Programme (FTP), life cycle of the instrumentation design, different engine tests, key requirements, alternative production methods regarding workflow, engine layout, also to follow the design process / layout throughout while interacting with various stakeholders and to obtain / communicate critical information related to Engine Instrumentation layout.
Creating instrumentation Design, resulting in Instrumentation Working Designs and Manufacturing Feasibility Study.
Design Support for testing of engine modes- PLM based process flow and specifications.
Identifications / creation of Interface Design / Process documents.
Final Design Quality Inspection and PLM part release before delivering to the customer.
Route Cause Analysis & Conceptual design – Detail Design and Design Verification.
Identify and validate all the requirement for the Instrumentation process and recommends optimum equipment for engine layout accordingly to Aerospace Industry Standards.
Conduct Supporting launch meetings, design / process reviews with customer (Concept review, Detail design review, etc)
Conduct pre-Technical/ Process reviews for all tasks to bring in robustness in Quality Procedures and first time pass in R-R review gates
Technical ownership of the Instrumentation Design / Process and Instrumented Components Production Procedures.
Recommend optimisation options and prepare drawings and specifications under customer approval.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS (ESSENTIAL TO CARRY OUT THIS ROLE)
Good understanding of the Aero engines product portfolio.
Previous Instrumentation design / process experience.
2-3+ year experience in Aero engine domain, Instrumentation Design preferred.
Knowledge of standard instrumentation techniques.
Knowledge of various instrumentation parts, sensors, Thermocouples etc.
Knowledge and understanding of TeamCenter/Unigraphics/NX and PDM .
Degree level qualification (or equivalent) or above in Aeronautical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES (ESSENTIAL TO CARRY OUT THIS ROLE)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent Computer Literacy with experience of using Microsoft Office tools
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and a diverse staff population.
Must be confident, resourceful, highly organised and be able to work with little direct intervention
Self-starter able to work well within a large team
Ability to train and mentor new engineers once experienced.
Ability to contribute to knowledge sharing sessions.
Pro-active planning skills to support delivery
Ability to quickly understand new problems and develop solutions.
