Mechanical Engineer- Fixed term up to 12 months

Location: Flint

This is an exciting opportunity for a mechanical project engineer to

broaden and develop their skills. This role provides leadership in the design and development of manufacturing equipment and supporting processes and has the ability to contribute significantly to the plant delivering it’s business results.

The primary purpose of the role is to evaluate, develop and procure equipment and processes to meet manufacturing and business objectives. Reporting to the Process, Projects and Improvement Team (PPIT) Leader, this role has responsibility for leading engineering projects and ensuring that: safety, commercial, technical and timescale objectives are met.

The role holder will lead a portfolio of 2-3 projects concurrently, as well as taking wider management responsibility for projects delivered on a turnkey basis. Project value can range from £15,000 to £10 million. The scope of Projects undertaken can be broad, offering a diverse and interesting portfolio of work.

The project engineer will lead teams made up of internal and contractor resources and will need to develop strong working relationships to ensure that the teams met objectives and deliver against project milestones.

Whilst the primary objectives of this role are focused at the project, the Project Engineer is also be an important member of the PPIT & Mill technical team and will contribute to wider Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost objectives. As such, they may provide technical leadership and input for a functional group or process.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Deliver high safety standards, acts as a role model and ensure compliance with company and country regulations.
Promote the use of risk assessments and the Management of Change process for the modification and installation of equipment.
Work to achieve the corporate vision for environmental responsibility, in compliance with all the applicable laws and regulations
Ensure that projects meet or exceed agreed success criteria which includes: safety, technical and budgetary elements.
Contribute to the Mill and Business cost saving programs.
Maintain strong technical networks to ensure knowledge transfer and the success of projects.
Liaise with external vendors of equipment, manage turnkey projects and take responsibility for successful project delivery. This may necessitate international travel.
Manage people effectively to ensure they meet their project milestones in terms of timescales, technical deliverable and budget

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate will ideally be an Engineering Graduate (with an electrical degree or equivalent) with relevant FMCG experience (Experience of working with high speed packaging machinery and/or
Candidates must have a strong focus on safety and be able to demonstrate consideration of this in all aspects of project management
Candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of managing successful engineering projects, coupled with commercial acumen and good general business knowledge.
With advanced project management skills, candidates will have a detailed understanding of the project life cycle including: forecasting, budgetary control, risk management, setting and monitoring project KPIs and controls.
Ideal candidates are likely to have prior experience of asset engineering, maintenance or small projects, prior to moving into an engineering project management role. They will already demonstrate a depth of experience and knowledge of engineering project management.
Experience of turnkey project management is desirable.
Candidates must demonstrate that they have built and maintained successful working relationships, built effective project teams, have strong communication skills and the ability to manage internal customers, Engineers and external contractors.
