John Crane is currently recruiting a Design Engineer to be based in Slough on a permanent basis.
The role will be part of the overall Research & Development business unit and will responsible for Dry Gas Seal development projects. The Design Engineer will be responsible for working with the wider team to take concepts and develop them into commercial products. Perform a variety of mechanical engineering design tasks related to Dry Gas Seal products to meet business needs and departmental objectives as part of the NPD team. Using sound engineering judgment to resolve design issues whilst providing guidance and supporting business growth.

Duties and Responsibilities
Producing concept sketches, general arrangement drawings using 2D and 3D CAD systems (Solid Edge preferred)
The preparation of product standards documentation, excel driven 3D models and corresponding 2D drawings
Manage small design related projects
Provide detailed engineering support to internal stakeholders
Limited engineering calculations and evaluation using stress analysis, mechanics of machines, thermal dynamics and fluid mechanics
The design of suitable test rigs and programs.
Support the transition of a product from development into production
Participation in the department’s innovation initiative - the invention of new concepts / ideas, and the generation of new IP.
Along with the other team members, contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment, including following appropriate HSE procedures / performance of risk assessments as appropriate.
Required Skills and Experience
Mechanical engineering degree (ideally MSc/MEng or alternatively BSc/BEng) with a good understanding of engineering concepts.
Some post-graduate work experience (2-3 years), in a mechanical product development/ product design role would be preferred
Full knowledge of 3D modelling & 2D drawing with a CAD software such as Solid Edge or SolidWorks
Knowledge of Drafting and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Some knowledge of FEA (Ansys or Abaqus) would be beneficial
Experience working with the following products, or similar, will be beneficial: actuators, valves, pumps, compressors, general rotating equipment (anything involving fluid or pressure).
Attention to detail and the ability to build good relationships.
A resource oriented person with an innovative mind, and focused on deadlines and targets.
