What the role involves:
We are looking for a Junior Platform Engineer to join the IT Operations team, working alongside our DevOps Engineers and IT Service desk. The primary function of the team is the configuration, management and maintenance of Missguided ecommerce systems. Day to day tasks vary from supporting production and non-production environments, driving operational improvements and assisting with and preparing for promotional events online.
What you will be responsible for:
You will be responsible for the resolution of application incidents on Missguided ecommerce platforms, and the execution of operational activities, to the quality and timescales expected by our customers.
Your role responsibilities will also include the following;
Monitor the hardware and software that runs web/app infrastructure
Maintain high server availability, monitoring Web infrastructure and responding to alerts.
Investigating issues that would affect site performance, stability and security.
Monitor and report on current capacity and performance.
Communicate with third parties & technical partners to resolve issues
Pro-active diagnosis & correction of faults identified plus liaison with the other internal IT teams to achieve fault resolution
Day to day web platform admin, cache control, config and data management, and other business requests.
Prioritise workload and tasks according to business priority/impact
Work closely with DevOps engineers and sprint development teams to ensure new services/development are seamless
Out of hours 24/7 support as part of a team on a rota basis.
Being part of the response team for any outages, including investigation, correction and communication
Investigating any errors and failures, identifying root causes, and working with the development team on fixes
Become an expert on a given product domain from both a business and technical standpoint.
Handle urgent escalation issues, ensuring we accurately prioritize based on severity and customer impact, while providing accurate/timely communications to customers in a non-technical style.
The type of candidate we would like to meet with is:
Someone who has the following experience in;
Resolving business data requests using prewritten SQL queries.
Knowledge of core AWS services, EC2, ELB, RDS, VPC, IAM.
Linux Systems Administration (Centos/RedHat).
Application troubleshooting tools, such as New Relic.
Efficient ability to trace and fix bugs, enhance performance and implement feature requests in a timely manner.
Experience using cloud-based platforms, any one of AWS/Azure/GCP.
Incident and problem management.
Inquisitive mindset, problem solver
Ability to upskill and onboard new knowledge
Able to work with autonomy on incident and problem resolution, and collaborate with colleagues and members of other technical support teams
Experience in a fast paced online environment supporting high traffic web applications
Sound analytical/problem solving skills
Ability to communicate technical information effectively to a non-technical audience
Knowledge of scripting or programming languages, such as Bash, Python and PHP.
DevOps and infrastructure-as-code technologies, such as Terraform.
Knowledge of Puppet and Git.
Experience of working on maintaining reliable, scalable solutions.
