The Central Rail Systems Alliance is formed by partners Network Rail, Balfour Beatty, Atkins and TSO. The CRSA is responsible for the delivery of multi-disciplinary railway upgrade projects on the North West & Central and Eastern regions of Network Rail’s recently devolved routes. The programme of works delivered by the teams is valued at £2bn and manages the development, design and delivery of Switches and Crossings and Plain Line renewals as its core business but is also responsible for the delivery of major enhancement projects.
We are looking to recruit a Permanent Way Assistant Engineer to join our Central Rail Systems Alliance team.
A pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening will be required, as Atkins will put you forward for Personal Track Safety training after a successful probation period.
Preferred Qualifications –
Minimum HNC or Bachelor’s degree equivalent in a related engineering subject.
Preferably Eng Tech or IEng (From either PWI, ICE or IMech) or working towards professional qualification.
Minimum of 2 years Post Graduate PWay design Experience, ideally with 4+ years overall PWay.
Understanding of the Rail industry in the UK.
An understanding of Engineering principles and the role of Engineering Standards (British Standards, Network Rail Standards etc.).
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Good Organisational Skills, Willingness to engage in site survey works.
Proficient in Microstation and Bentley Rail Track (BRT) design software production as well as Microsoft Word and Excel.
A working knowledge of using ClearRoute 2 software.
Ability to develop PWay designs with minimal instruction from seniors.
Ability to self-check design works.
Experience of being responsible for completion of projects to time and cost.
Experience of S&C renewal schemes.
Site survey experience.
Able to author technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality.
An understanding of track construction methods, stageworks of projects, PWay components and surveys.
Able to think logically and laterally, solving problems creatively and assessing them rationally.
Able to multitask and respond to short-notice changes.
Able to act with initiative and to take responsibility.
Be self-motivated and able to work independently and within a team.
Able to organise self.
Able to work to time and cost budgets.
Able to learn about new subjects quickly.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to express ideas, concerns, solutions, suggestions in written or oral form in such a way as to be understood by those with or without a technical background.
Positive with a proactive ‘can-do’ attitude.
