We are currently recruiting an Instrument Engineer to join our Process Safety team at our White Pigments Manufacturing Facility at Greatham site.
The successful candidate will play a lead role in all activities linked to the design, installation, operation and testing of the site instrumented safety systems. The individual will work alongside multi discipline teams, including Instrument & Process Engineers, Operations teams and external contractors/specialists.

The successful candidate will :
Develop and maintain documentation for existing and new SIS functions consistent to corporate safety I&C standards and the sites Management & Quality Program
Ensure that guidelines related to Instrumented Protective Systems are developed by the Process Safety team and correctly implemented within onsite Plant Systems
Collaborate with the Site Instrument Engineer and EHS team to ensure that safety requirements are correctly implemented.
Participate in project design reviews to ensure upgrades incorporate compliance with site and corporate standards, legislation, and meet the requirements of industry wide best practice.
Contribute to the design, acceptance and installation of the sites Instrumented Protective Systems, including technical follow-up (review, analysis, solution development, testing, resolving problems,…)
Lead and contribute to activities that involve maintenance, improvement or redesign of the site safety Instrumentation & Control (I&C) functions. In particular a thorough understanding of IEC 61508, IEC 61511, EN ISO 13849-1, EN IEC 62061 and the associated assessment and implementation processes.
Develop and lead improvement of the Alarm Management Systems, DCS and Hardware safety trip systems, and integration into existing systems. Be accountable for delivering significant improvement in number of trip inhibits, number and frequency of activated alarms and standing alarms.
Develop robust management control of trip inhibition systems
Maintain a strong commitment to the implementation and continuation of the Safety Program, values and ethics. Contribute to the development and application of the sites Process Safety culture, working to deliver solutions and improvement to Venator corporate standards.
Key candidate requirements:
Degree qualified instrument engineer with substantial experience in engineering of safety I&C systems including design and integration in large facilities, ideally on a COMAH regulated plant
Good IE Engineering experience gained in chemical manufacturing or similar business sector. A working knowledge of relevant European and British Standards i.e. BS EN 60079 series, BS 7671, IEC 61508, IEC 61511, EN ISO 13849-1, EN IEC 62061, IEC 61513 lifecycle, associated assessment and implementation processes.
Operational and practical experience in safety PLC’s, DCS, DeltaV control systems, hardwired trip systems, alarm management and alarm overload reduction measures linked to EEMUA 191.
Relevant practical experience in SIL design, specification and analysis of safety related systems.
