Minimum Job Qualifications
Willing to travel.
Degree qualified in metallurgy or materials science, recently graduated.
The first 12-18 months of this role will involve a rotational training program where the metallurgical engineer will spend time in various engineering functions as well as a plant environment to learn the ins and outs of the OneSubsea engineering function. After completing the rotations, the engineer will begin working as a Metallurgical engineer with the team in Leeds, UK.
Development of material specifications issued to suppliers. The material specifications are a procurement document and define all the parameters the materials must have to perform in oil field production areas.
Technical auditing of critical suppliers to verify that they are capable of producing to the material specifications. These audits are performed on a periodic basis for suppliers all over the world from forging to coating suppliers.
Project Metallurgical engineering functions; metallurgical engineer interacts with counterparts from the major oil companies such as BP, Shell, Chevron, Total, Exxon in negotiating the material specification and qualifying the suppliers to the project. A project includes the delivery of subsea equipment used in production such as wellheads, manifold systems & jumpers to a specific field.
Failure analysis of components: components fail due to the challenges in the environment and these failures must be analyzed to identify root causes and develop corrective actions. Failure analysis is done across all spectrum of the oil production cycle from Drilling to Surface production to Subsea production.
Review of tendering or quotations. Each of the major producers develops specifications and requirements for the various drilling and production projects taking place all over the world. These requirements must be reviewed in order to access the cost & feasibility.
Problem solving & shop floor support. OneSubsea & Cameron have worldwide manufacturing facilities in Brazil, US, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia etc.. Most of the process that are being executed at these facilities are metallurgical in nature, hence there is a constant need for support & problem solving. Travel to these facilities from a Houston based office is expected.
Metallurgical engineers participate in delivering a training program on Introduction to Metallurgy to engineers, quality & procurement personnel in many of the worldwide OneSubsea & Cameron manufacturing plants.
Supplier Auditing: Metallurgical engineers coordinate with Supplier Quality engineers to audit critical processes supplied to OneSubsea by external vendors. Processes include forging, heat treatment, casting, coating, plating, etc.
