About the role
BWB Consulting has exciting opportunity for a Signalling/Systems Engineer based out of our Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester, or London office.
The Systems Engineer will have experience of working in complex project environments, specifically working on the delivery of train control and command solutions in the areas of Design, Installation & Testing. Knowledge of working practices in Network Rail or other heavy/light rail environments would be advantageous along with a willingness to expand their knowledge and challenge themselves through diversification and continual learning to stay at the forefront of technology change.
The roles will require international travel to support projects in collaboration with our parent company CAF. Although the role will be mainly technical, an ability to price and win work, manage budgets and show ambition to drive the company forward would also be required.
About the team
The Rail team provides a comprehensive design and advisory service focused on meeting the engineering challenges involved in servicing the infrastructure requirements of renewal, enhancement, and turnkey projects.
We work across all types of railway systems and our clients range from local developers through to international contractors working for public sector bodies.

A Systems Engineer who has good knowledge of all rail disciplines, but specialises in Signalling with good knowledge of Design and/or Engineering Assurance across the full project lifecycle.
You will be expected to have the following personal attributes and skills:
A ‘self-starter’ with drive, positivity, enthusiasm, and a strong desire to succeed.
Technical independence within the field of Systems Engineering, covering aspects of preliminary and detailed design in addition to good knowledge of installation and testing requirements, for heavy or light rail solutions.
Good understanding of the requirements capture process and tools required for demonstrating verification and validation.
Good knowledge of European Train Control Systems and Communication Based Train Control solutions.
Sound knowledge of the interfaces between different rail systems such as Track, Signalling, Traction Power, Low Power, Civils etc. and the ability to communicate and integrate with the relevant designers to find a holistic railway system solution.
Commercial awareness with developing, influencing, and negotiating skills, as well as an aptitude to develop emerging and new client relationships.
The use of the Microsoft Office Suite of software, including Excel.
An ability to effectively delegate responsibility to others and act in a mentoring role to less experienced staff.
Excellent communicator, both written and oral, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
At least one of the following would also be beneficial:
Experience of Design production, using CAD software such as Bentley MicroStation or AutoCAD.
Experience of undertaking Installation &/or Testing on heavy or light rail projects.
Experience of undertaking Project Engineering activities across the project delivery lifecycle.
Applicants should have attained ideally three or more years’ experience and should have qualified at HNC/D or equivalent academic level as a minimum.
The successful candidate will ideally be professionally accredited (e.g. INCOSE, IRSE, IET) or working towards IEng/EngTech.
Whilst academic qualifications appropriate to the roles are important, attributes such as problem solving, communication, personal organisation and team working will help candidates stand out. Above all we seek demonstrable enthusiasm, ambition, and a willingness to learn.
