Job Overview Qualcomm is a company of inventors that unlocked 5G ushering in an age of rapid acceleration in connectivity and new possibilities that will transform industries, create jobs, and enrich lives. But this is just the beginning. It takes inventive minds with diverse skills, backgrounds, and cultures to transform 5Gs potential into world-changing technologies and products. This is the Invention Age and this is where you come in.
The Validation groups purpose is to validate the implementation of our IP within the product and ensure products are suitable for mass production. To meet this goal a large part of the role is to develop test setups, equipment, scripts and other resources and to troubleshoot any issues found.
This role requires a knowledge of both hardware and software. Areas of focus include: RF, regulators, power management units, oscillators, digital interfaces, current consumption, regulatory conformance and audio.
The primary role for the Engineer, Validation, is to take the technical lead of a component or components in the design and implement Qualcomms validation test systems to guarantee functionality according to the device specifications and external customer requirements. This often requires generating new test hardware, scripts and measurement techniques. The position involves all aspects of cell and system level testing, debugging, fault finding and the communication of the results within Qualcomm. Tasks include evaluation and selection of test equipment, development of new tests, scripting and their subsequent integration into automated systems, creating graphs, database manipulation, collation of material for the various design milestones and evaluation of faulty modules.
As an engineer you will take ownership of certain aspects of a project and will be responsible for delivering the scripts and hardware on a timescale agreed with the group leader. Tasks will be well defined and the engineer is expected to work with a level of supervision from a senior team member.
Contribute to requirements capture and programme reviews.
Task definition and breakdown including time and risk estimation.
Develop tests scripts/hardware of moderate scale and complexity to agreed timescales under moderate supervision.
Maintenance of scripts and hardware.
Debug of hardware including defect investigation.
Deliver high quality scripts and hardware in line with the departments processes.
Contribute to the creation of relevant documentation following the departments processes.
Conduct peer reviews for scripts and hardware.
Collate, summarise and present validation data for review.
Run scripts, analysing and confirming the validity of results using data analysis and statistics.
Automate standard lab equipment (power supplies, spectrum analyzers, signal generators)
Dedicate time to learning and development (new scripting languages, test methodology, test equipment, etc.)
Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in maths/science/electronics or related field.
References to a number of years experience are for indicative purposes only. Applications from candidates with equivalent experience will be considered, provided that the candidate can demonstrate an ability to fulfil the principal duties of the role and possesses the required competencies.
Experience of working in a test lab
Ability to automate test equipment
Knowledge of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC standards
Detailed knowledge of audio, digital interfaces, RF oscillators, current consumption measurements
Knowledge of databases Required Skills
Knowledge of analogue and digital semiconductor circuits
Familiarity with test equipment; power supplies, high performance oscilloscopes, audio analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers.
Familiarity with a scripting language (Python/Tcl/C# etc)
Ability to draw conclusions and highlight key points from a data set
Demonstrate analytical problem solving skills
