The job of dimensional control engineer or technician is to check the geometric accuracy of parts at various stages in the manufacture process. The results of these measurements are essential to monitoring the overall compliance of parts. Reports are to be created and submitted for review by the fabrication department and clients depending on the parts involved, the dimensional control engineer or technician either takes manual measurements using various precision instruments such as a total station theodolite measuring device using dedicated dimensional control software. The job involves normal work hours or in alternating shifts.
Dimensional control engineers work either on their own or in small team. They mainly work in a dedicated workshop but may also be required to work off-site. You will also contribute to cost reduction and quality improvement efforts. Essential skills include the ability to read engineering drawings (geometric specifications, benchmarks, etc.), a solid grasp of trigonometry, and a working knowledge of CAD software.
