Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our BB Kilpatrick team to work in Smethwick.

Role purpose

To support the Project Manager/Director in the overall implementation of the engineering strategy and framework for the designated project.

What you'll be doing
As, Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:-:

Developing and support the Project Manager and senior project team in the overall implementation of the engineering strategy and framework for the designated project;
Developing and manage materials, plant and labour within the allocated budget and resources, ensuring their safe, effective and efficient delivery of service on the project;
Assisting in the development of all systems, design information, procedures and quality systems are effectively communicated for the project and ensure that they are satisfactorily communicated and implemented;
Supporting the project delivery teams, verifying the work of others, providing robust technical support;
Leading or supporting assurance on projects through conducting audits and regular meetings with project teams, identifying best practice, areas for improvement and areas of concern, including matters relating to safety, finance or quality;
Developing and maintaining relationships with relevant customers including technical consultants and suppliers, managing their input in the design, development, pricing and delivery of technical solutions for the project;
Maintaining personal expertise and knowledge to ensure that the company is at the forefront of the industry both technically and in using the latest technologies and standards;
Providing coaching and motivation to the project team, to deliver high performance on the project and create a culture of continuous improvement;
Ensuring that the engineering is efficiently managed so that it is fit for purpose from conception right through installation and maintenance; recognising site conditions and constraints and taking into account CDM, other statutory regulations and customer requirements;
Ensuring the efficient operation of procurement, material control policies and procedures; providing assistance in producing accurate and current procurement schedules and cost information/reports (where required);
Ensuring the customer requirements are clearly understood and that Quality Control mechanisms are in place that provide assurance that the asset and/or service delivers as designed/required;
Contributing to the accurate and efficient provision of progress and productivity reports weekly and monthly to senior management, in accordance with company procedures;
Providing concise and accurate feedback on project performance against estimate to the estimating function (where required);
Seeking to understand and implement the appropriate digital tool sets to support the project execution;

Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential-

Previous substantial engineering experience and a subject matter expert in the discipline of engineering discipline;
Up-to-date relevant knowledge of engineering and of industry best practice, appropriate to the relevant discipline, and knowledge of what ‘good looks like’;
A good understanding of other engineering and construction disciplines is needed, along with a willingness to challenge ‘the norm’;
A valid CSCS card;
Focused and thorough with the appropriate skills to advise senior management when something needs immediate redress together with the tenacity and drive to ensure that the necessary action is taken;
Previous management experience within the construction or relevant support services industries, together with a strong understanding of technical issues and trends in the relevant sectors, including specialist markets;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners and delivery team members under time pressure, and a customer centric, flexible approach;
A desire to continuously pursue innovation and development, with a focus on engineering excellence, the customer and the business.

The following qualities/experience are desirable-

A degree in a relevant engineering discipline and a relevant professional qualification, such as MICE or MIStructE, or having an ONC/HNC;
An understanding of BIM and how to read and assemble BIM models and produce appropriate reports from them.

Balfour Beatty is currently engaged on the Midlands Metropolitan Hospital project to deliver an early works package consisting of making the building weather tight and safe. We are also entering a preferred bidder phase in order to enter into a replacement Construction Contract to complete the remaining construction works

We are aiming to enter into a contract by the end of October 2019 and start the main works in early December 2019, with the new Hospital opening in June 2022.

The replacement construction works consist of completing the fit out and external works on a design and build basis along with the remaining envelope works on a build only basis. The approx. value of the works is 267 million pounds.

At peak a workforce of around 800 operatives will be employed on the scheme with the project being led by around 100 Balfour Beatty staff.

The project is a high profile scheme which will provide a service to over half a million residents in the Sandwell and West Birmingham areas and presents a fantastic opportunity for individuals to expand their experience and develop new skills on a major project in a well organised, fully supportive and friendly team environment.
