Our Airframe Systems division brings together an extensive range of skills and abilities to support some of the world’s leading commercial, business and military aircraft manufacturers.
Across its five product groups, Airframe Systems produces a host of world leading technology. Our Braking Systems product group supplies both military and commercial aircrafts.
We seal essential spaces, such as landing gear, wings, engines, nacelles, windows and doors, and produce intelligent air data systems and sensors that measure altitude, angle or acceleration. These sensors can be used on planes, train control systems or even missile control systems.
Whether it’s developing new radome solutions, fuel delivery systems or high-altitude life support systems, the Airframe Systems embodies the innovation at the heart of Meggitt.
A permanent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Composite Design Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Mechanical Design Group Team Leader, you’ll be will be responsible for designing aerospace composite and hybrid structures to customer requirement specifications to programme and budget.
You’ll attend internal and external design reviews and work as part of a small team, this is a fast paced varied role for other responsibilities include the generation of manufacturing drawings, generation of qualification plans, QTPs and QTRs etc.
Design and CAD modelling of Composite components
Analysing and interpreting customer requirements
Interaction with Stress departments to ensure full compliance with concept intent and structural integrity
Continuous development of designs and process to keep best practices
Comply with company quality standards
Lead and mentor junior designers to ensure company standards are achieved
Supporting the Test team as required to explore and validate technical solutions
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
To be successful in this role you’ll have an engineering background in the aerospace or automotive industry and would have been involved in the design of composite components from concept to certification. It is envisaged that the candidate would have a minimum of 3 years post-graduate experience.
You'll also need:
An education to degree / HND level in mechanical or aerospace engineering
Demonstration of competence in the design of fibre reinforced composite materials
Familiar with aerospace composite design methodologies and best practice
Demonstrated expertise with complex mechanical engineering solutions
Proficient with 3-D modeling , CAD and Solidworks
Ability to improve products or services by applying professional and business knowledge
Able to solve complex problems; makes decisions based on the analysis of multiple sources of information
Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion
Familiar with military and civil certification requirements for aerospace structures
The generation of detailed manufacturing drawings to BS8888 and ASME Y14.5
Knowledge of manufacturing techniques for fibre reinforced plastic and thermoplastic material
